http://www.starpolish.com/features/article.asp?ID=714
With his heartfelt lyrics that often deal with life's seedier side,
Everclear's Art Alexakis has connected strongly with fans, many of whom look
to him as evidence they can move beyond troubled times. Tina Whelski
recently spoke with him about the band's new retrospective, his songwriting,
and what's in store for Everclear.

STARPOLISH INTERVIEW: MIKE BORGIA
http://www.starpolish.com/features/article.asp?ID=717
What do you do when some members of the band you're playing in decide
they're not cut out for the rock 'n' roll life just as the band is flirting
with a major-label deal? If you're singer-songwriter Mike Borgia, you strike
out on your own, work twice as hard and use all the knowledge you've gained
to achieve a similar level of success.
MUSICIANS ON CALL: BENEFIT GUITAR AUCTION ON MONDAY JAN. 31ST AT SOTHEBY'S
AUCTION HOUSE!
http:// www.musiciansoncall.org
After celebrating its 5th anniversary this past year, Musicians On Call (MOC)
is now holding its first major fundraising event -- one that will be
incredibly special. On Monday night, January 31st, at 7 p.m., MOC will be at
Sotheby's Auction House (72nd Street and York Avenue) for a special auction
of signed guitars, memorabilia and some very cool "experiences" (everything
from a special backstage tour of the Conan O'Brien Show by Max Weinberg
himself, to an all-inclusive cruise to the Bahamas or Cancun). The evening
will include an appearance by "Sex And The City's" Cynthia Nixon and a rare
solo performance by Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter John Mayer. Among
the artists signing guitars for the auction are Bruce Springsteen and the E
Street Band, Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Dave Matthews, Elvis Costello, Goo Goo
Dolls, and dozens more! Tickets for the event are priced at $500 for limited
front-row seats and a meet-and-greet with John Mayer, $250 (or $400 per
pair), and $100 for standing room tickets. To get more info or to order
tickets, visit the MOC website at: www.musiciansoncall.org, or call them at
212-741-2709. There are still some sponsorship opportunities, so call the
phone number to find out more how you or your company can be part of this
very special and worthwhile event!
MUSICIANS TEAM UP FOR TSUNAMI RELIEF EFFORT
http://www.faceoffriendship.org/index2.php
The folks on a forum at MusicPlayer.com decided to get involved in a
collaborative effort to offer downloadable songs in .mp3 format, with
donations being transferred directly to the Disasters Emergency Committee (www.dec.org.uk)
based in London for the disaster victims. We told them that we'd be happy to
publicize this undertaking. You can find out more about their efforts at the
Face of Friendship website: http://www.faceoffriendship.org/index2.php.
STARPOLISH CD STORE - FEATURED ARTISTS: ADAM MUGAVERO, GREEN INSIDE, GOODBYE
GIRL FRIDAY, AND DAVE PAHANISH
http://www.starpolish.com/artists/store/
Ever think that all this horrible weather -- flooding and mud slides in the
West, record snowfalls in the Mid-West and East -- is nature's way of
telling us to be a bit more gentle to our environment? The one thing that
it's certainly doing is making us all spend a bit more time inside -- and
what better activity to fill these hours than by listening to some great
music from these StarPolish artists: Adam Mugavero, Green Inside, Goodbye
Girl Friday, and Dave Pahanish.
CRITIC'S CORNER REVIEWS: ASHLEY PARK, ING, ROCKET WEST, AND SHERRY LAWSON
http://www.starpolish.com/artists/critics/
Resident StarPolish critic Joe McCombs made just one New Year's resolution:
not to use the word eponymous, unless he was talking about large land
animals. Unlike you blowhards who said you'd go to the gym everyday and who
now weigh MORE than they did three weeks ago, Joe kept his resolution while
reviewing the latest CDs from these StarPolish member artists: Ashley Park,
ing, Rocket West, and Sherry Lawson.
